Multiple Google Data Center Search
What Are Google Data Centers?
Whenever you go to Google.com to conduct a search and you hit the Search button, Google first queries a script that measures "server loads".
Google serves so many users on a daily basis that they cannot keep their search software on only one computer. So when you do a search, Google looks at each computer (Google Data Centers) that has its search software installed on it. Google figures out which computer has the lowest activity at the time, when you hit the Search button, and then Google's software requests its search results from that computer and you receive search results from that computer.
Google Data Centers can be ascertained by their IP addresses. When you do a search, your browser still shows you sitting on http://www.google.com, so you cannot trust your browser to tell you which Google Data Center gave you those results. The way to recognize which Google Data Center gave you a particular set of search results is to click the link that is labeled "cache" at the end of the actual listing. Once you get to the "cached" snapshot of a web page, then you will be able to look at your browser's address bar and see which IP address the search results were derived.
Why should I care?
Unless you own a website, you should not care.
However, if you own a website and you are trying to improve your ranking inside of Google's search results, then Google Data Centers matter.
People have often asked why when they did a search, they saw their website on Page One of Google's search results, then one day later, the web page does not even appear in Google's search results. The reason this happens is that the first search query pulled information from one Google Data Center, and then the next search pulled information from another Google Data Center.
Since we provide Pay For Performance SEO services, we require that ranking information will be derived from a check of ten Google Data Centers to find an average ranking of a website, across ten data points.
